The 1.4 FD P-Tower is an older weapon design, its primitive galven circuitry and its focusing lens produces a lower power shot that is dangerous only to light armoured repulsor craft such as landspeeders or airspeeders. A Rebel standard, the P-Tower comes equipped with a hadrium-iode tracking system, allowing it to target in any weather. Although its shots fire almost instantly, the outdated targeting computer cannot accurately predict high-speed airspeeder manoeuvres and scoring a hit is difficult for all but the most experienced gunners. In practice, the P-Tower has often proved more effective against the armour of stormtroopers advancing on foot than Imperial vehicles. This weapon makes a tantalizing target and suffers from a low-fire rate. However, it is rugged allowing it to survive the temperature extremes that Hoth presented.

The P-Tower's platform rotates 360 degrees and its dish elevation mechanism allows the weapon a full field of fire. Its light armour plating protects the targeting computer and the small Atgar C-6 Battery, however it offers no protection to its crew members, forcing them to stay out in the open, exposed to enemy fire. For the P-Tower to fire, its battery must charge the weapon's 16 micropower routers which are evenly placed around the dish and its 8 energy conversion cells. Which builds up an adequate charge to allow the weapon to fire. A single burnout in any of the 16 converters will disable the P-Tower, making this weapon prone to failure in combat. The main gunner controls the weapon through a portable fire control computer with a readout screen and a small joy stick for aiming. This weapon is typical of Rebel Alliance resources, this inexpensive artillery piece is the most common and widely used at Rebel bases. Many of them were deployed at the Rebels Echo Base and other major Rebel bases. The P-Tower is being phased out of the Rebellion because of its low effectiveness rating and also since its operators are offered no blaster protection by it.

*After Endor* It was still in use with the New Republic military, it is almost universally hated by their commanders. It's under powered, difficult to move and too expensive to abandon on the battlefield. The New Republic conducted experiments to upgrade the P-Tower to improve its range, overhauling its power system to deliver more damage or adapting it to take a power feed from a large generator. In the end the experiments were a failure due to the weapon's decades old electronics. However, the New Republic did eventually put the P-Tower out of service and currently it can only be found in use with Mercenary units and Pirates gangs that cannot afford anything better.
