The B-Wing Enhanced Model 2 is identical to the B-Wing/E except that it features an additional proton torpedo launcher to facilitate a faster rate of fire. This starfighter represents a significant advance over the original B-Wing and even the B-Wing/E. It entered production one year after a failed Imperial operation which sought to capture the design specifications for the B-Wing/E. Mounted in the fighter's nose is its computer targeting system, while mounted on its chin are its targeting lasers (not weapons). It is known that Admiral Ackbar employed a modified variant of the B-Wing/E2 as his personal "diplomatic" shuttle. The original seating configuration was modified so that the gunner's seat was brought up beside the pilot's seat, which allowed the resulting space to be converted into a cargo compartment. *After Endor* Around seven years after the Battle of Endor, Slayn & Korpil designed a removable ammunition magazine capable of holding a dozen proton torpedoes, which could be fitted to the back neck of a B-Wing/E2. Due to the loss of manoeuvrability suffered when the magazine is mounted (since it disrupts this fighter's mass balance), it is only fitted when missions require the additional ordnance load out. However, due to the alterations made to the B-Wing/E2's torpedo loading systems to accommodate the removable magazine, this makes the magazine unable to be mounted on the B-Wing or B-Wing/E. Although, Slayn & Korpil recommends against attempting to fit the removable magazine to the B-Wing and B-Wing/E, it is known however, that there are some New Republic field mechanics who are attempting such a feat. |
