The Compact Assault Vehicle is suppose to transform a single Imperial trooper into a deadly assault force, at least in theory. However, the CAV has long been a tool of the Empire to maintain its control throughout the galaxy. The Compact Assault Vehicle gives a single trooper the firepower of an entire squad. These valuable pieces of equipment addresses the problem of spreading Imperial Forces too thin throughout the vast expanse of the Galactic Empire. There are planets which are scattered throughout the galaxy which are too remote to warrant a full scale occupation force and yet demand a substantial presence because of their value to the Empire. The Compact Assault Vehicle was created precisely for that situation. A small Imperial Force equipped with CAVs can hold and control an impressive amount of territory, provided that the opposition does not have extensive firepower of its own to call on.
These vehicles have been crucial to controlling the rioting that broke out across the huge urban metroplexes of the heavily populated Core and Colonies Regions. But so far, the CAV has yet to distinguish itself as a weapon of war. The CAV is unfortunately susceptible to sensor jamming, which could be why the CAVs have yet to catch on with Imperial troopers. These small tracked wheeled vehicles can attain fairly impressive speeds and its speed provides the CAV with mobility. This vehicle also has a surprisingly powerful weapon for its small size.
Unfortunately, opponents have discovered that the intricate computer technology that assists the CAV operator can be jammed. This causes a breakdown in sensory input, confusing the pilot and rendering the CAV assistance programs inoperable. This makes the CAV less useful against high-tech foes, but more than adequate for dealing with the primitive worlds throughout the Empire.
Controlled entirely by one
trooper, the CAV combines sophisticated transportation, communications
and combat equipment into one compact unit. Fast, well armoured and equipped
with sensors that allow the CAV to drive itself so that the trooper can
concentrate on combat. The primary rule for CAV operators is never under
any circumstances, get out of the vehicle. The CAV is their weapon, their
fort, if separated from the unit the solitary trooper is probably doomed.
