    The E-Mag Explosive Mine was originally sold to agri-corporates under the guise of "preventing stock animals from grazing in undesired areas" before the Battle of Endor. When triggered, a wall of shrapnel is thrown upwards, severely damaging the vehicle that set off the mine. While the mines are generally triggered by repulsorlift fields, their sensor units can be modified to be set off by surface-pressure. Generally, the E-Mags are found on planets where unwanted attention is discouraged.

    After a few of these mines were employed to assassinate several highly-placed Moffs, the Empire swiftly moved to control their manufacture. Mesonics was pressed by the Empire to accept Imperial protection, with guards stationed outside and within their facilities. Additionally, Mesonics was forced to provide an unlimited supply of E-Mag Mines to the Empire, and accept the Empire's authority to deny outside orders for the weapons. Effectively, the Empire denied all non-Imperial orders. Even when the Mesonics fell under the control of the wretched New Republic, the company was kept on a tight, but not as restrictive leash. Nevertheless, several employees have managed to smuggle out the mines and make a handsome profit via selling them on the black market.
