The Eclipse-class Super Star Destroyer was first planned following the Battle of Hoth. It was effectively one of the most enormous vessels ever to roll out of drydock. Commissioned by the Emperor himself, the Eclipse was conceived to meet his exacting specifications. Considered a superweapon in its own right due to its spine-mounted superlaser; which is modeled on the Death Star's primary weapon. An incredible sum of resources have been spent on the development of superlaser platforms. Due to recent progress in focusing and generator designs, the ESSD's superlaser is more powerful than the (eight) individual lasers employed on the Death Star. This weapon is capable of shattering the most mightiest planetary shields and searing whole continents in an instant. Following the tragedy at the Battle of Endor, many suggested to scrap this six engine behemoth in order to construct more Star Destroyers, yet interestingly, the ESSD's construction never ceased. Four and a half years after Endor, the KDY design team fled to the deep core aboard the half-complete Eclipse, just before the New Republic captured the Kuat System. In all, it would take six long years to complete this vessel. Designed to strike fear into the hearts of its foes (which it effortless accomplished), it featured an ebony alloyed hull, exploiting all the significant armament breakthroughs of the previous few decades, including improved ion cannons, gravity well projectors, and the latest enhanced hyperdrive and sublight engines for maximum reaction speed. Frighteningly, its gargantuan hangers are sufficient to encompass a Victory-class Star Destroyer (most likely the fore launch bay). Its hull and shields were so mighty that enemy warships could be rammed without a second thought. All those who serve aboard these man-o-wars are hand selected. A cadre of Sovereign Protectors were included as personal body guards to the Reborn Emperor. Effectively, this titan could single handedly engage entire New Republic fleets. Located on its command tower were: the bridge, deflector shield command, communications tower, main communications array, and main sensor array. The ship's hanger storage was located above the fore hanger (launch bay), while the troop quarters were located forward of the fore hanger. Behind the fore hanger was the aft launch bay. There exists a portside hanger near the ship's bow. The point emanating down from the bow is the long range communications array. Included in this ship's mind boggling crew complement are the personnel for the five Pre-fabricated Garrison Bases. Only two of these vessels were ever constructed (but not in parallel), the Eclipse and the Eclipse II. Both of these vessels were unfortunately destroyed. |
