The DF.9 Anti-Infantry Battery was among the most popular anti-infantry artillery pieces on the market and could be readily found in the arsenals of the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance. The battery's Proton-Shielded Armour is provided by a Proton Shield Generator, shield projectors can be found on both the turret and on the enclosed cylinder. The gunner's hatch is located on the top aft section of the turret, the turret can rotates 180 degrees, the support crew sit within the armoured cylinder, the fixed-position emplacement nature of this weapon means that it cannot be easily moved from place to place. These weapons pose a threat AT-STs, their effect on AT-ATs is negligible and are used in conjunction with anti-vehicle batteries to protect military bases, starports and other strategic facilities. The DF.9 precision targeting computers allow its blaster bolts that scatter explosive energy to hit the heart of enemy infantry formations, therefore inflicting heavy casualties and destroying support equipment. The DF.9 can decimate an enemy infantry unit long before they can return fire. A single shot from this weapon is capable of destroying an entire enemy squad.
These weapons played a key role in protecting the Rebel base on Hoth, the DF.9 are extensively used at other Rebel bases, including Tierfon Rebel Outpost, Arbra Base and Oracle Base on Tel III. Rebel Technicians have successfully modified the DF.9's laser cannon actuator and first-stage barrel to allow this weapon to be effective against light vehicles such as AT-STs and CAVw PX-10s, however the upgraded version proved useless against the Empire's AT-ATs at the Battle of Hoth.
*After
Endor* Although this design is more than two
decades old it has remained popular with the Empire, New Republic and independent
military groups such as planetary militaries, militias and mercenary units.
The DF.9's easy availability on the Black Market means that these weapons
tend to end up in the possession of Pirates, Revolutionaries and other
outlaw groups. Imperial and New Republic forces have used at least two
variants of this weapon. The Twin DF.9 features twin rapid-fire cannons,
a larger power generator and advanced laser actuators that allow a fire
rate of one shot per standard second. The SP.9 has an improved DF.9 cannon
mounted on a self-propelled repulsorlift sled with a maximum speed of 60
kph and the SP.9's fire rate is one shot per standard second.
