| Special Abilities : | Hoverscout can operate on planets and terrain types that would make repulsorlifts behave erratically. |
The Hoverscout does not use repulsorlift engines to float off the ground, instead it relies on hover engines to generate an air cushion to have the same effect. Although its speed and manoeuvrability cannot compete with repulsor-driven scout craft, the Hoverscout nonetheless sports many advantages over them. Its maintenance and failure rate is lower, it is easier and more inexpensive to maintain, and requires less training to operate. The Hoverscout was designed for use in small unit reconnaissance missions and offensive point operations. The vehicle works well independently or with infantry or armour support. These vehicles are often deployed with several other Hoverscouts in raids or rearguard actions. On a number of planets in a variety of ground forces and combat conditions the Hoverscout has proven itself time and time again.
The Hoverscout design was built to include several military specifications. It maintains enough armour to withstand a direct hit, while at the same time not losing its manoeuvrability. The exceptionally wide field of vision is possible due to the use of ceraglass windscreens, which are manufactured from a ceramic alloy that is transparent and tough as armour. Sealed hatches and weapon ports support a closed and recyclable environment. The standard hovercraft ground effects design has been modified to meet the needs of military use in rigorous terrain. Standard equipment consists of weapon-linked EPR sensors at each crew position and long-range communications. A variety of sensors and communications packages can be installed as custom-ordered devices for mission specific tasks.
A power capacitor initiates
blower rotation (for the dynamo) from which, back-blast impellers recycle
the energy from the craft's air cushion to supplement power generation.
As a result of this efficient use of energy, the Hoverscout sports a longer
range than most vehicles of its size and type. The air cushion is generated
by four three-cycle Kasmin turbopumps, the most refined heavy-duty blower
unit of its type. The pump itself allows extra elevation and float when
needed, thus permitting the Hoverscout to easily surmount minor blocking
terrain.
