The Imperial II-class Star Destroyer came into service only a few months after the ill loss of the First Death Star. This design boasts more resilient and heavily reinforced hull, increased hull shielding, more competent shields, heavier firepower and double the hyperspace speed when compared to its predecessor. These vessels are able to withstand a full ion cannon broadside salvo from a SSD and not be completely disabled, although manoeuvrability, speed, weapons and shields are severely hampered. A single ISDII is sufficient to pacify a star system's entire population. It is one of the most powerful warships ever conceived. Due to the massive increase in firepower which consumes much of this ship's energy, the shields mounted for this design are unfortunately weaker than that of its predecessor. At the time of its release, this was considered acceptable since it would be able to dispatch any threat before it would receive serious damage. Although, it must be mentioned that the ISDII prototype, the Empire featured fully twice the shield strength of a standard ISDII. It accomplished this feat via more power and shield generators. Furthermore, it appears by the Battle of Hoth ISDIIs were being refitted to increase their shield strength (NOTE: Speculated due to XA). Between the shield generators is the communications tower, instead of the tractor beam targeting array as found on the ISD. Located near the ship's stern, directly above the Engineering section and sublight drive nozzles, and a few decks below the command and systems control sections is the detention centre. Prisoner cells (contain cots) are opened via lock release button. The detention centre is serviced by its own trash compactor whose walls are too thick to be cut through by a lightsaber. Vehicle deep storage areas are included in this design. Turbolifts for this vessel move both vertically and horizontally. Turbolaser crews for these warships are drilled in anti-ship and anti-torpedo fire missions. The bridge transparisteel viewports are capable of withstanding the impact of a capital-scale concussion missile fired from a VSD. However, the force of the impact causes the interior layer to crack and spall of a cloud of high velocity crystalline fragments at a sufficient velocity to pass through (and kill) a man. Those personnel within the crew pits are safe from this hail storm. Of course, once the missile detonates, all those in the bridge parish. Several levels below the flight bridge is the observation deck, which features a transparisteel platform. Ceiling illumination grid panels are spaced 1.5 metres in the corridors, while at corridor intersections they are spaced two metres apart. In the case of the corridors leading to the officers' quarters the lighting is spaced three metres apart. Auxiliary maintenance shafts exist near some turbolifts. *After Endor* Over two and a half years after Endor, ISDIIs can be found in private hands. For example, Booster Terrik owns the Errant Venture, properly, the Virulence via negotiations with the New Republic. Although, it must be noted that most of that vessel's weaponry has been stripped. In the case of the ISDII Freedom, properly the Avarice, the New Republic bribed the crew to become traitors. At the time of Grand Admiral Thrawn's untimely death, the New Republic operated a number of ISDIIs, examples being the Moonshadow and Freedom. |
