The Imperial Armoured Transport is a satisfactorily secure design, it is primarily employed as a system to system support craft. It must be noted that this design was an early concept of the Star Galleon, and was in service at least around the Battle of Yavin. Although this ship maintains a platoon of Imperial Navy Troopers, it usual journeys in convoys with an escort. Unlike other vessels composing the convoy, Armoured Transports will move to swarm and attack the raider. All Armoured Transports move Imperial freight whether be it military, government or corporate. They have been employed in mop-up operations after Imperial Forces have raided a planet situated Rebel base. An example would be the planet of Dankayo, where the Imperial Armoured Transports Elusive and Timely took part in mop-up operations against a Rebel base located on that planet.

Like the Imperial Star Destroyer, this design dumps its garbage before making the jump into hyperspace. This ship can be outfitted with a pair of external racks (set on each side of the ship) which are capable of carrying a total of six TIE Fighters. A consequence however, is that the transport is noticeably slower in hyperspace. The TIE pilots can scramble into their fighters while the Imperial Armoured Transport is traveling through hyperspace, thus allowing for a quick deployment as soon as the ship returns to normal space.
