Powering up a projector takes 6 rounds (30 seconds). It can be immediately turned off, but the capacitors take 8 rounds (40 seconds) to shunt the power and completely recycle. The operator can rush the gravity well shunting and recharge time, but at the risk of damaging the generator. Depending on how many rounds the operator waits to place a new gravity well, add the difficulty value from the Gravity Well Projector Recharge Chart. If the roll misses by more than 5 points the projector blows out. Gravity Well Projector Recharge Chart

1 = +50
2 = +40
3 = +30
4 = +20

Note : SOTG states Interdictor armed with Light Turbo Quadlasers. SN incorrectly states 30 troops and crew skill. XvsT incorrectly states 1,000 troops and crew: 2,807 + gunners: 24. EGVV, NEGVV and SWE state powering up gravity wells takes more than a minute = contradicts WEG and TT#2. TT#2 states powering up the projectors immediately after the Interdictor drops out of hyperspace requires one minute. Only NEGVV states hull can take additional weapons and NR seized all Interdictors in Imperial hands. Only TIE-SC states combat designation as Heavy Cruiser/Immobilizer. SOTG depicts 1 large centre, 2 medium (flanking centre) and 2 small (between centre and flank) engines, while EGVV states 3 drive engines. EGVV and NEGVV state forward domes contain gravity well projectors - separated by top and bottom domes for a total of 4. Aft domes not labeled.

    The Interdictor Cruiser serves the Imperial Navy well in its capacity of capturing or preventing the escape of vagrants, criminals, and Rebels alike. This design built on the Vindicator-class Heavy Cruiser's hull, features the addition of massive spherical domes. Contained within these domes are the gravity-well projectors. It is considered to be the most successful interdictor design yet conceived. As these vessels are too valuable, expensive, and rare to be risked operating in solitude, they are often escorted by no less than two ships. After the advancements achieved in gravity well projector technology, this vessel was conceived. Two years before the tragedy at the Battle of Yavin, SFS completed manufacture of the first Interdictors. Prior to the Battle of Hoth, only minute numbers of these vessels were being constructed. In the end, their manufacture proved to be a delicate and time consuming project. Only a small number of Interdictors had been completed by the Battle of Endor, most of which were operating in the Outer Rim, under the command of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

    Extensive modifications to the Vindicator-class' sound hull were required to accommodate the Interdictor's heart, a colossal, finicky, and outlandishly costly gravity well generator. Additional space was consumed for increased power generation capacity as the gravity well projectors require an enormous sum of power. Due to these modifications and requirements much of the standard armament of the original cruiser hull had to be stripped. With so little internal space remaining due to the gravity well generator, hanger and cargo space had to be sacrificed. Depending on its mission profile, a number of additional weapons could be fitted to its all-purpose hull. While it takes only 30 seconds to power up the gravity well projectors, if the Interdictor wishes to do so immediately after it drops out of hyperspace, it requires double that time.

    The projectors emits waves of focused energy that disrupt mass lines in space, effectively simulating the presence of a true stellar body such as a asteroid or even a planet. Due to the size of the "gravity mass shadow", ships transversing through hyperspace drop back into realspace as their hyperdrive cutoffs activate when in proximity such to a "mass shadow". In fact hyperdrives cannot differentiate these artificial mass shadows from those created by stellar bodies. Occasionally, ships can suffer severe damage as a result. When suddenly pulled out of hyperspace, the ensnared ship's crew can be violently thrown about as they re-emerge in realspace. It is during this short window of confusion that Imperial vessels strike. Additionally, when a gravity well is placed within sufficient proximity of a vessel jumping into hyperspace is made virtually impossible. Due to sheer inertia it is impossible to quickly change the direction of the gravity wells' original movement, once they have been placed.

    As interesting side note, once an Interdictor powers up all of its gravity well projectors, all nearby ships in realspace must adjust their inertial compensators to counter the effects on their ships' internal gravity. And more interesting still, if the gravity wells are reversed they push against nearby masses such as starships. Thus, permitting the Interdictor to quickly change its vector, far more quickly than its manoeuvring systems are capable. Such a manoeuvre however causes havoc for the ship's artificial gravity. Normally, the projectors cannot be set-up to conduct this tactic. Unfortunately, it is known that pirate scum, known as the Scourge, located in the Elrood Sector operate a modified KDY Super Transport VII called the Impasse. The Impasse was outfitted with a gravity well projector purchased from the squib crime lord Slythor, who somehow acquired it from a scrapped Interdictor Cruiser.

    This vessel serves two primary missions: create artificial gravity wells in battle zones and high security locations, and ambushing ships in hyperspace. In battle, Interdictors are positioned at the perimeter. This permits a clear view of the engagement and maximum fire arc so that the gravity wells can either be precisely placed or flood the battle zone to prevent enemy craft from escaping. For a ship attempting to flee, the Interdictor plots its path and places a gravity well in front of it to prevent it from escaping into hyperspace. In the ambush role: ambushing vessels by placing Interdictors on the best routes to a known Rebel target in order to eliminate them before they reach it; ambushing Rebel ships along known hyperspace corridors; ambushing the space lanes in order conduct surprise customs inspection boardings (to combat smugglers and inspect cargoes); cutting off escape routes for enemy fleets; blockade duty. In the case of dealing with Rebels terrorists' patented hit-and-fade attacks that are incredibly disruptive to Imperial shipping, the Interdictor has proven to be exceptionally effective in reducing their successes. Interdictors' such as the Tory's Catcher commanded by Captain Gresia Vleen, which patrols the space lanes within the Noonian Sector have served a critical role in operations against pirate and "privateer" scum.

    To spring an ambush the Interdictor must know the target ship's location and the time it will pass through it, or route, destination and speed. Often, this process is done by the best estimate, since detecting ships in hyperspace is currently not possible. Generally, the target ship is fleeing from Imperial pursuit. Its hyperspace vector tracked by the pursuing vessel is transmitted to the Interdictor. From this point, astrogators onboard the Interdictor make their summations as to the most likely flight paths and pass that information to the gravity well projector gunners who then place the gravity wells in the fleeing ship's most probable paths. However, should the information provided to the Interdictor be totally wrong, or if the target ship makes unanticipated moves such as traveling at a different speed, changes routes or makes several layovers capture is impossible. Nevertheless, if some information is known about the target ship then it may still be possible to ensnare it.

    Located on top of the command tower is a pair of communications towers. The centre face of the tower contains the bridge. Below, the main computer core is housed in the forward portion of the tower's neck. Like the Imperial Star Destroyer, the Interdictor maintains a primary launch bay, and forward of that a smaller secondary launch bay. Sensor/targeting stations can be found on the ship's flanks, just forward of the gravity well projector domes. A little less than a third of the ship, in the aft section is consumed by the main reactor. The Interdictor is well-armoured, and well-shielded, as it features more than a dozen shield generators. Three drive and two secondary engines propel this warship through the cold hard death of space.

*After Endor* The Interdictor Cruiser has retained its primary role of preventing prey from escaping and ambushing enemy ships. It was not until Grand Admiral Thrawn's return five years after our defeat at the Battle of Endor that the Interdictor realized its full potential. This ship was a key element in Thrawn's machinations to restore the Empire to its rightful position. Following the Grand Admiral's untimely death, the New Republic focused its efforts to capture all the Interdictors in Imperial hands. Later, the New Republic created the Immobilizer 418A by redesigning the original gravity well projectors through improving their recharge rate and range during the conflict with the Yuuzhan Vong.
