The MC80B came into New Republic service approximately 18 months after the Battle of Endor. Its introduction was due to the alteration of New Republic strategy of harassing Imperial assets to taking and holding territory. In order to accomplish these objectives, a new vessel designed from the bottom up as a pure ship of war would be required, the MC90. Nevertheless, in the interim a new combat vessel was required, thus the MC80B was conceived. This improved, more streamlined ship is essentially a refitted MC80. It features superior shielding, advanced set of multiple backup shields, multiple backup shield generators, and a more heavily reinforced hull when compared to its parent. These features bestow a decisive edge for the MC80B during drawn out battles, as it can survive more punishment. Additionally, its turbolasers are linked in banks of 12, and its ion cannons are linked in banks of four. This arrangement allows for exceptional firepower to be directed against a single large target. However, like its predecessors the vessel is designed for Mon Calamari physiology; slightly more damp than standard air, thereby making it noticeably uncomfortable for humans and other species. The holographic displays and monitors remain configured to Mon Calamari visual ranges. Also, some controls are integrated into the crew seats, invoked by certain movements. While perfectly natural to Mon Cals, they are nearly impossible for humans to mimic. The Mon Remonda was one of the first in the MC80B line to enter the service of the repugnant New Republic. Its bridge is located in the dorsal centre of the ship, while its sensor clusters can be found in the nose. Its main reactor core is ventrally located, just in front of the engines. Many of the MC80's original components were retained for this design. |
