The Modified Strike Cruiser came into existence during the Rebels' campaign in the Airam Sector. The gravity well projectors used on this vessel originally came from the Interdictor Cruiser Compellor. The Rebels tracked down the Interdictor Compellor after the Empire's disastrous defeat in the Goff System to the Imperial Repair Yard KDY-77 in the Swellen System. From there the Rebels were able to capture the Interdictor while it was under repair. The captured Interdictor Compellor was transferred to the Mobetta System which Airam Clan Leader Tamaron offered his help to the Rebels at his factory there. While in the Mobetta System, operating without the Empire's knowledge the Rebels and the Airam modified and refitted the Rebel Strike-class Cruiser Peregrine to house the Interdictor Compellor's gravity wells and control modules. With the modification complete to the now christened Modified Strike Cruiser Peregrine, this Rebel vessel was equal to that of the Empire's Interdictor Cruiser.

The first operational test for this vessel was in the Derilyn System, where the Rebels were able to destroy an Imperial  reinforcement fleet headed to Admiral Senn's task force. Meanwhile, an Imperial follow up patrol was able to locate the missing Interdictor Compellor. The Interdictor was detonated in full view of the Imperial patrol, preventing the Empire from finding out the existence of the Modified Strike Cruiser for the time being. However in the end the Empire discovered the existence of this ship when the Rebels and Airam made their failed attempt to destroy the ISD Rage in the Bes System in the Airam Sector. The ISD Rage and its complement destroyed the entire force with the exception of the Modified Cruiser Peregrine which was able to escape destruction. When the Empire conducted a reconnaissance of the Nocto System, they discovered that the Rebels were in the process of building another of these classes of ships - the Modified Strike Cruiser Sagina at their secret shipyard. Unfortunately that ship was able to escape.

The Modified Strike Cruiser Peregrine participated in the most decisive battle in the Airam Sector which was fought at the Rebels' shipyard in the Nocto System. It was at the Battle of Nocto where the Empire put an end to the short lived Modified Strike Cruiser Peregrine. That Rebel vessel would no longer ever pose a threat to Imperial security since it was destroyed along with the Rebel Shipyard Calenz in the Nocto System.
