The R-444 Sky Swooper is a repulsor-augmented hang glider, based upon the para-wing gliders of Cloud City. The pilot rests in a sling and controls the glider through hand and foot controls. These controls consist of a single bar where the feet rest and two hand grips which are attached to each wing. While the R-444 is fairly easy to control at low speeds, the pilot needs to be vigilant to remain in control of the craft when using the repulsorlift engine. Firing the blaster mounted above the pilot is made difficult during manoeuvring. Noise levels emitted from the R-444 is much lower than most other repulsorlift vehicles due to the gliding capabilities of this craft. Long distance flights are possible due to the repulsorlift motor.
The R-444 is Nen-Carvon's first
entry into the field of repulsor-driven craft. And it appears that the
R-444 is a promising design for the corporation. This craft is primarily
used by Imperial troops conducting stealth raids or on planets with difficult
terrain. Presently, the Sky Swooper is standard issue for Stormtroopers
involved in stealth raids. The Empire also employs the R-444 as a patrol
vehicle due its ability to duck in and out of trees and change direction
in tight places. It is employed by the Empire on the forest planet of
Aris and the great canyons of Ebra due to the great altitude changes associated
with those terrains. |
