The Nebulon-B Frigate is an Imperial vessel, however the Rebels have managed to acquire a small number of these powerful ships. Shortly after the Nebulon-B Frigate entered service, the Rebel Alliance was able to score a major coup and were able to capture a number of them. Also inadequate Imperial security measures allowed a few of the newly commissioned Nebulon-Bs to defect to the Rebel Alliance. The Nebulon-B Frigate proved to be key warships in the Rebel Fleet, especially in the early stages of the Galactic Civil War. The Rebels use these vessels as command ships, long range reconnaissance ships, search and rescue ships, and strike platforms for their starfighters. The Rebels have mastered using the Nebulon-B as a base ship for strikes against vulnerable Imperial targets and often the Nebulon-B doesn't have to enter the battle zone.

    In many cases, a short-handed Rebel Task Force will use a Nebulon-B Frigate as a command ship, with Corellian Corvettes and Corellian Gunships as supplementary capital ships. Nebulon-B Frigates are warships of immense capability, in the hands of the Rebel Alliance these vessels represent a dangerous opponent. With the Nebulon-B Frigate in the possession of the Rebel Alliance, it allowed them to stage several escort sting operations, using these brand new Imperial warships as cover. This frigate is among the Rebel Alliance's most useful multi-purpose vessels. The frigate is an excellent combination of weapons, starfighter complement and excellent shielding capacity. While this frigate lacks great speed, it is tough enough to take a beating from all but cruiser class ships, while being able to fire back enough punishment to trouble even fully armed star cruisers. In short, the Nebulon-B Frigate is the Rebel Alliance's best all around close support vessel, able to do both escort duty for convoys and cause damage to larger capital ships in combat.
