Note : XWS#8 incorrectly states Emancipator was ISDII. Background information sounds slightly odd due to EC stating that these ships were used before Thrawn's return, while DESB strongly suggests that the ships only entered service after Thrawn's death.

The Rebel Star Destroyer had only two known ships within this class. The ISDs that under went these massive rebuilds were the Emancipator (properly the Accuser) and the Liberator (properly the Adjudicator), which were captured at the debacle, the Battle of Endor. General Lando Calrissian reasoned that since the Empire was unsure of its total losses at Endor, the Rebellion should repair the captured ISDs and employ them to infiltrate and sow havoc and confusion in still-Imperial controlled sectors. In the end, Admiral Ackbar found the concept distasteful, but agreed and supported this line of thought, due to the potential benefits for the Rebellion.

Their physical appearance is similar to that of a normal ISD, including the three primary and four secondary engines. Although, the tower between the shield generators is similar to that of an ISDII. In order to give these ships a few surprises of their own, they were equipped with more capable weapons and sensors. Originally, both them were slated to participate in the Borderland Campaign. However, due to the severe damaged sustained in the campaign for gobbling up the remains of Admiral Zsinj's territory in the Outer Rim, while in competition with Admirals Rogriss and Teradoc. They were sent and laid up at the hidden Hast Shipyards. Later, Imperial Forces attacked that secret facility, nearly destroying the ships. Due to the inflicted damage, they were re-evaluated and given low priority for repairs.

After five full years after Endor, the vessels were refitted for operations. Their activation was further delayed due to Grand Admiral Thrawn's glorious campaign. In the wake of Thrawn's untimely death, the these ships were quietly put in service, or so it seemed. It is known that the Emancipator participated in combat operations against Prince-Admiral Krennel's Ciutric Hegemony. General Calrissian urged to commit these ships to their original purpose. The result, in one of its first missions, the Liberator was destroyed. And in the case of the Emancipator, it was consumed by the World Devastator Silencer-7 at the (Second) Battle of Mon Calamari. Nevertheless, it is known that these ships did conduct highly effective hit-and-fade sorties, sowing chaos and confusion against warring Imperial factions during the Imperial Mutiny.
