The Prototype TIE Advanced equipped with shields, powerful weapons, hull armour and some of the fastest sublight drives available to starfighters, and as such it may be potentially a match for a Nebulon-B Escort Frigate. This prototype was field tested near the Core Worlds for evaluation of its abilities after the Battle of Yavin. It was rumoured that squadrons of these new fighters were being deployed in the Ringali Shell.
