The TIE Advanced is the direct result of advancements from the TIE Advanced x1. The pilots have given the fighter the nickname "TIE Avenger" as it is widely held that the TIE Advanced represents an opportunity for redemption after the debacle at the Battle of Yavin. This fighter uses the same type of solar ionization reactor that the TIE Advanced x1 and the TIE Interceptor use. The production of the TIE Advanced had increased due to its excellent performance in trials and selected missions. This extremely deadly starfighter is an excellent multi-role craft. The TIE Advanced was designed at the Imperial Naval Weapons Research Station in the Parmel System.

    These starfighters were originally without a hyperdrive due the fact that Admiral Zaarin's scientists could not develop a hyperdrive reliable and small enough to be used on this starfighter. A few of the TIE Advanced that were without hyperdrives were deployed in the Imperial Navy just after the Battle of Hoth. A breakthrough in this problem was achieved by the scientists working for the Habeen and the Nharwaak. The Habeen joined the Empire and gave the Empire the hyperdrive technology. Admiral Zaarin was the one that conducted the diplomatic mission. However, the Nharwaak did not share that vision and attempted to sell the hyperdrive technology to the Rebels. But the Empire was able to stop them. Shortly after, TIE Advanced equipped with the hyperdrive were rolling off of the production lines. These starfighters equipped with the hyperdrive were finally seeing front-line action against the Rebellion after much delay.

    When Admiral Zaarin turned traitor he made extensive use of these starfighters to have the technological edge over the Empire's starfighter forces. Unfortunately in a short period of time his treacherous forces were able to destroy the bulk of the Empire's TIE Advanced factories, thereby severely crippling the Empire's TIE Advanced production capabilities. The traitor Admiral Zaarin was able to do this so quickly and efficiently because of his position as head of starfighter research allowed him to know some of the Empire's secrets and vulnerabilities.
