The TIE/fc Fighter is one of the most manoeuvrable fighters in the TIE series, which can be a horrific shock to Rebel pilots complacent with having the manoeuvring edge. The TIE/fc is designed for fire control duty and transmitting precise targeting data back to its fleet. This TIE variant operates by hovering near a target and is primarily employed to improve the fire control and accuracy of long-range capital ship weapons; although its secondary purpose is to improve the fire accuracy of other TIEs. Other TIEs are used to lining up their own targets, while capital ship weapons constantly rely on sensor data from a variety of sources. Rebel slang calls these craft "sharps". This fighter also serves as a target acquisition craft, as its fire controller uses a laser target-designating sensor to guide precision shots, through "illuminating" or "painting" the target. Although the TIE/fc is 20 percent slower than the TIE/ln, the considerable range of its sensors help make up the difference. It also features jam-resistant data comlinks and advanced targeting computers. The fighter's single laser cannon is located between the upgraded targeting array. In short this fighter is designed to co-ordinate fire control and target designation for long-range naval bombardment of ground or space targets. |
