The TIE/rc Fighter sports upgraded thrusters making this fighter as fast, but more manoeuvrable to the TIE/ln. This TIE variant which is a modified TIE/ln is used for starfighter wing and fleet scouting missions, as well as extending the reach of launch base sensors and carrier ships. This craft gathers intelligence for the fleet, going where ship-board sensor arrays cannot go. Its upgraded sensors allow the TIE/rc to make fast passes at considerable range and escape, or to range ahead of a main starfighter force and relay vital pre-engagement data to the wing's assault force. It is also sometimes deployed in asteroid fields or areas of dense starship traffic which may limit the mobility of larger Imperial craft. Rebel slang calls these craft "peepers". The TIE/rc is equipped with extensive and sensitive sensors and long-range communications packages. To make space for the added equipment, this design could only be fitted with a single laser cannon for defence. In the Elrood Sector for example, the TIE/rc was modified to conduct detailed surveillance of communications bandwidths, movement of civilians and otherwise provide detailed intelligence. These craft avoid combat and remain in constant communications with their base. In summary this special recon fighter is lightly armed and is meant for sensor and communications reconnaissance duty, not combat. |
