Also if Droid Starfighter loses contact with Droid Control Ship due to malfunction or other unexpected catastrophe, the droid self-destructs to prevent it being captured

The Trade Federation Droid Starfighter resembled the nightmarish hawk-bat. They were the most sophisticated droid starfighter built to that date and carried firepower far greater than their size class. The Droid Starfighter was mass manufactured by the Trade Federation for both use in space and atmospheric combat. Launched from Trade Federation Battleships, these Droid Starfighters swarm enemy targets, while at the same time being elusive and lethal opponents for organic pilots. The combat strategy for these droids when combat is imminent is to unleash a huge number of them to overwhelm enemy forces. The complex Droid Starfighter is highly efficient, extremely quick and agile. They are controlled by a continuously modulated signal from the central Droid Control Ship computer, which keeps track of every single individual fighter just as it pulses through the processor of every single Battle Droid.

Unconventional solid fuel slugs give the Droid Starfighter its tremendous thrust, the fuel burns furiously when ignited, propelling the fighter with minimal engine mass. The solid fuel system limits flight time, however the numerous droids are easily recycled back into their racks for recharge and refuelling when spent. To refuel the fighter, the engine modules are removed and new fuel slugs are added. To protect and conceal its laser cannons, the Droid Starfighter retracts its wings, thus conceals its military nature, enabling it to surprise attack. Covering the laser cannons when not in use, shields them from micro particles and atmospheric corrosion, thus improving their accuracy by a tiny degree. These fighters are stored in ceiling racks in the outer hanger zone of Trade Federation Battleships, keeping them out of the way of hanger activities. Connected to a high voltage power grid, the droids are quietly charged to maximum capacity by the reactors of the Battleship. Individual Droid Starfighters periodically test their systems as they hang, flexing their wings and turning their "heads" which gives the impression that creatures they are lying in wait for combat.

When these droids soft land (through the use of Landing Repulsor Bands, located on the wings) in enemy territory, they transform themselves into walk patrol mode, where they serve as guards to territory they have blasted into submission. When the droid shape-shifts into its walk patrol mode, they extend scissors action walk mode claws located at the forward tips of the wings and the neck struts deploys the "head" forward. While the energy torpedo launcher firing channels are angled for anti-personnel use. While in this mode the Droid Starfighter can launch into the air to pursue fleeing ships as easily as they can cut down resisting populations of "future customers". In walk patrol mode they present an eerie spectacle of terror, towering mindless killing machines directed by a far-off species.

Located in the "head" of this fighter is the signal receiver, droid brain, active sensor "eyes", magnetic imaging sensors and visual sensors. The sensors occupy forward section, the droid brain in the middle section and the antenna occupies the aft section of the Droid Fighter's "head". Behind the twin primary sensor ports (in the "head"), the active sensor "eyes" give off their eerie glow. Those "eyes" use long-wavelength radiation to find its targets. Located in front of the "head" and between slits of the energy torpedo launchers is the antigravity generator. Located along the nose of the Droid Starfighter are its permanently installed power cells.
