The Trade Federation STAP
is a lightweight and agile vehicle designed for use by Trade Federation
Battle Droids. They are typically dispatched ahead of the main army or
to support main battle force actions by conducting reconnaissance, aerial
attack and anti-personnel hunting missions. The STAPs are similar in design
to individual repulsorlift "airhooks" used for civilian and military purposes
elsewhere in the Galaxy. This extremely agile hovercraft can move swiftly
through most environments including dense forests and swamps. Its ability
to traverse through dense vegetation such as forests that would stop larger
vehicles is brought about due to the STAP's minimal structure. As its minimal
structure brings that advantage, it also leaves the piloting Battle Droid
exposed to enemy fire. The STAPs are well equipped to deal with small targets,
which allows Battle Droids to ferret out resistance, deal with fleeing
civilians and destroy opposition with its twin blaster cannons. High-voltage
energy cells power the STAP for limited deployment sorties, after which
they must return to be recharged. The power cell housing is located just
below the twin drive turbines of the STAP. While an antigravity projector
is located at the bottom.
