SA-1 GUILD / S-25 Berkut (С-25 «Беркут»)

Construction of this system around Moscow began in 1955 and was combat ready by June 1956. The system remained in service until 1982, when it was finally replaced by the S-300P [С-300П] (SA-10 GRUMBLE A).

Each launch site contained a launch area of 60 launch positions for the V-300 (SA-1 GUILD) missile, joined by a road network in a characteristic ‘herringbone’ arrangement together with a guidance area for the B-200 (YO-YO) radar bunker and a support area.

  • The V-300 missile had a maximum range up to 45 km, could hit targets between 4,000 to 14,000m in altitude and was armed with a 250 kg HE warhead.

  • The B-200 (YO-YO) radar operated in the E/F Bands and performed target engagement functions with a maximum range of 150 km and the ability to simultaneously track between 24 and 30 targets. Only one target could be engaged by each individual YO-YO radar.

  • The R-113 (GAGE) radar operated in the E/F Bands and provided long range search functions out to 300 km.
