Digital Gaming

The Wargamer Scenario Depot Project

This is a ambitious project by me utilizing the Internet Archive to form a semi-permanent durable archive of military themed scenario/mods for games before they disappear into digital oblivion. It's also part of why I've started to shift away from hosting large amounts of data on my website for game mods/scenarios – because if the only place on the web for some of these is my site; what happens if my site goes down in the near (20-25 years from now) future?

PEN/PAPER/SEMI-DIGITAL GAMING

Designing a VASSAL Module to be “Future Proof”

Wargame Counter Generator (v1.2) (v1.0) – This is something I worked on primarily during September 2023 through November 2023 to help develop counter images for VASSAL modules; so that it is easier for the “average” user to quickly develop a consistent visual style for their counter artwork, without having to download/install/purchase/learn graphic editing programs or search for artwork to use.

There is also the complimentary Wargame Counter Sheet Generator (v1.0) that I developed to take the images generated by CounterGen; to enable people to make their own custom wargame counter sheets which could then be printed out and cut/mounted by the end user.

RETRO GAMING

Calibrating DOSBox Speeds – So that your DOS game can run about the same speed(s) as it should on retro hardware; as many old games did not have a clock/speed limiter.

Imaging Old IBM/PC Disks – It's not as simple as it sounds; there's a lot of little things that can trip you up.

Installing Star Trek: Judgment Rites (and it’s SFX Pack too) on Modern PCs – The Judgment Rites installer uses a very specific DOS interrupt that is not normally emulated in DOSBox, so you'll need to use a DOSBox Branch to install it correctly.

Information on Old-Style PC Game Boxes – Once, long ago, PC games came in very nice, handsome cardboard boxes that were intended to both hold the disks and feelies as well as lure the potential purchaser in with tantalizing glimpses of what was contained within the game.
